  • Agricultural automobiles (tractors etc.)

Change in tax amount from fiscal year 2017

The special greening exemption, which was applied from the taxation year 2016, has been extended for one year. As a result, the following vehicles that were newly registered between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017, are now subject to this exemption. (The status of compliance with each fuel efficiency standard is stated in the remarks column of the vehicle title certificate.)

Change in tax amount from fiscal year 2016

Due to revisions to the Local Tax Act, etc., tax rates have changed from the fiscal year 2016 tax year.

  • Light vehicle tax payment slips can be paid at convenience stores nationwide.
  • However, payment slips without a barcode or with a dirty barcode cannot be accepted at convenience stores. Please pay at a financial institution or at the townhall counter.
  • Payment at convenience stores can be handled until the end of May the year following the taxed year. After that date you will not be able to pay by convenience store, so please pay at financial institution or townhall counter.

For those thinking of riding an electric kick scooter on public roads

Electric kick scooters cannot be driven on public roads unless they comply with the safety standards of the Road Transport Vehicle Act. Make sure your vehicle complies with safety standards.
In addition, if you are riding an electric kick scooter on public roads, you will need to attach a license plate issued by your city, town, or village. If you would like to receive a license plate, please visit the Tax Division counter.
*When filing your declaration, please bring the actual vehicle or a document that proves that the vehicle complies with safety standards.
(Certificate from the seller, catalogue and photos of the registered vehicle, etc.)
When driving on public roads, please observe the following rules.

・ Carry your driver's license.
・Wear a helmet.
・Subscribe to compulsory automobile liability insurance (mutual aid).
・Equip your scooter with a braking device, headlight, rear view mirror, etc.
・Attach the license plate issued by the municipality.
