FY 2009
Activity Theme: Let's share the story of Niseko's famous trees! ~Niseko's beautiful tree scenery~
Niseko is home to many trees that have been there long before you were born. These trees have various stories behind them, some growing naturally, others planted by people in the past, as well as rare trees and even some incredibly thick and large giant trees.
[First Session] Held on Friday, August 7th
For the first session, we conducted fieldwork, observing the Niseko forest from a 1,000m plateau and experiencing the Niseko forest up close via footpaths.
[2nd Session] Held on September 27th (Sunday)
In the second installment, the teachers of the Niseko Town Mori and Greenery Society cooperated to actually cover the huge trees and rare trees in Niseko.
[3rd Session] Held on Saturday, November 28th
For the third installment, as a culmination of this year's activities, we selected some "nice tree-filled landscapes of Niseko" from our interviews and created promotional advertisements to help turn those locations into new tourist spots in Niseko.
[The only tree of its kind in Japan]
The former Fujiyama Elementary School (now the Niseko Highlands Youth Hostel "Pooh House") has hickory trees, which are used to make skis. These trees were planted by a teacher at the former Fujiyama Elementary School to teach students how to ski. They are very rare in Hokkaido.
