Elementary and Junior high school entrance and transfer procedures

The childs school entrance date will begin on the 1st April following the date the child turned 6. Children born on April 1 will be the same grade as children born on April 2. The April 1 following the day the child reaches the age of 6 years is the date the child enters elementary school. (Children born between April 2 and April 1 of the following year are in the same grade.
E.g. The new first grade students for the 2023 school year will be children born between April 2, 2016 and April 1, 2017.

A school attendance notice will be sent around January to the family (parents) who have newly enrolled children. Please bring this notice to school on the day of your entrance ceremony. (Be careful not to lose it as it is an important document.)

• Preschool examination (late September to early October). In addition to the health checkup required at school, intelligence and language exams will be conducted. (Notification from the Board of Education)
• One day orientation (February) at the school you plan to attend. (Information from school)

If you move after receiving your school notice, wish to enroll in a private elementary school in another municipality, or you wish to attend Hokkaido International School Niseko, please contact the Board of Education.

• Please receive "Certificate of Student Enrollment" "Certificate of Textbook" from the school you are currently attending.
• Please submit "Certificate of enrollment" and "Certificate of textbook" to the Board of Education when transferring to Niseko Town. At that time, you will be given a “Transference Notice” issued by the Board of Education to parents. Please bring this letter to your new school.
• If you are planning to transfer to elementary and junior high school at Niseko Town, contact the Board of Education in advance for a quick response. (In the case of registration on the day, it may take time to issue the transference notice, and if you move out of the school area on foot, you will need to make advance adjustments for using the school bus.)

(Notes) For foreignersResidents' registration is required as a foreign resident in a transfer school to a municipal school of a child of a foreigner (guardian). Please do necessary procedures at the office window. (We do not go to school for foreign children who are not foreign residents, regardless of the length of stay.In addition, the international school is located in the town.)

• Please inform the school you are currently attending at the school about the schedule of transfer. (Since the school contacts the Board of Education, it is unnecessary to contact the board of education from parents.)
• Please submit "Certificate of Student Enrollment" and "Certificate of Textbook" from the school and submit it to the elementary and junior high school of the transfer destination or the municipal board of education committee of the transfer destination.
