Elementary School Enrollment
Elementary school entrance date
Children enter elementary school on 1 April after they have turned six years old.
(Children born between 2 April and 1 April of the following year are placed in the same academic year.)
E.g. The new first grade students for the 2023 school year will be children born between April 2, 2016 and April 1, 2017.

School attendance notice
A school attendance notice will be sent around January to the families with eligible children. Please bring this notice to the school entrance ceremony. (Be careful not to lose it as it encloses important documents.)
Main events before school entrance
- Preschool examination (late September to early October). In addition to the health checkup, intelligence and language exams will be conducted. (Notification from the Board of Education.)
- We will conduct an orientation day in February at the school for all children who plan to enroll (conducted by the school.)
Moving house, private elementary school etc.
Please contact the Board of Education in the following cases: you are planning to move after you have received the school attendance notice; you want to enroll your child in a private school outside of Niseko; you want your child to attend the Hokkaido International School in Niseko.

Transfer to Elementary and Junior High School in Niseko Town
- Please ask for a "Enrollment Certificate" and a "Textbook Certificate" at your current school.
- When you register at Niseko Town Hall, please submit the "Enrollment Certificate" and the "Textbook Certificate" to the Board of Education. You will receive a “Transfer Notice” issued by the Board of Education. Please submit this notice at your new school.
- If you plan to transfer to an elementary or junior high school in Niseko Town, please contact the Board of Education as soon as possible. Without prior notice, issuing the “Transfer Notice” may take additional time, and your child may not be able to use the school bus immediately.
Notice for foreign residents: In order to enroll your child at a Niseko Town school, you must be registered as a resident in Niseko Town. Please note that there are also private international schools in Niseko.

Transfer to Elementary and Junior High Schools Outside Niseko Town
- Please inform your current school about the transfer. Since the school will contact the Board of Education, you do not need to contact the Board yourself.
- Please obtain an "Enrollment Certificate" and a "Textbook Certificate" from your current school, and submit them to the school and/or municipal office at your new address. For further details, please consult the Board of Education in your new municipality.
