About "Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement on Sustainable Town Development Utilizing Electric Vehicles"

On February 18th, 2022 Niseko Town, Kutchan Town and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Hokkaido Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Sapporo Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Nissan Prince Sapporo Sales Co., Ltd. signed a "Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement on Sustainable Town Development Utilized".
This agreement promotes the spread and utilization of electric vehicles (EVs) in the Niseko tourist area by Rankoshi Town, Niseko Town, and Kutchan Town, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the area, improving livability, and improving the livability of the community. It was signed for the purpose of working on solving regional issues such as revitalization, strengthening disaster countermeasures, and improving the attractiveness of tourist destinations.
In addition, in the event of a power outage due to a disaster in Rankoshi Town, Niseko Town, or Kutchan Town, we will build a power supply system in the event of a disaster using the electric vehicle (EV) "Nissan Leaf" rented from Nissan's sales company. This includes efforts such as disseminating the value of EVs as "running storage batteries."

Rankoshi Town, Niseko Town, and Kutchan Town are working on environmental measures and disaster prevention measures, and are also actively promoting SDGs with the aim of creating a sustainable and resilient town.
Niseko Town was selected as the "SDGs Future City" and "Local Government SDGs Model Project" in 2018, and along with the neighboring Rankoshi Town and Kutchan Town, it is an environmentally friendly tourist destination surrounded by nature. We are promoting advanced and sustainable town development.
On the other hand, Nissan Motor will continue to provide new value and excitement unique to EVs, and from May 2018, through the spread of EVs, regional issues such as environment, disaster countermeasures, energy management, tourism, and transportation issues in rural areas. We are promoting the Japanese electrification action "Blue Switch," which aims to solve the problem, together with local governments, companies, and sales companies nationwide.
In the early 2030s, we declared that all new models introduced in major markets will be electric vehicles, and while leading the electrification, we are accelerating efforts to achieve SDGs and achieve carbon neutrality.
The two parties agree on both the "Blue Switch" promoted by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and the efforts of Rankoshi Town, Niseko Town, and Kutchan Town to promote environmental and disaster prevention measures and SDGs, and will conclude this agreement.

The outline of the "Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement on Sustainable Town Development Utilizing Electric Vehicles" is as follows.

1. Matters concerning environmental measures
-Rankoshi Town, Niseko Town, and Kutchan Town will work on the utilization of EVs and the introduction and dissemination of charging equipment as part of efforts for sustainable town development such as greenhouse gas reduction measures and promotion of the use of renewable energy.
・ Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Hokkaido Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Sapporo Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Nissan Prince Sapporo Sales Co., Ltd. will collaborate and cooperate with the three towns on the above initiatives, as well as the "Nissan Waku Waku Eco School" to raise the environmental awareness of local children. We will also collaborate with the three towns regarding event implementation and environmental education.

2. Matters concerning improvement of living environment and measures for local communities
・ Rankoshi Town, Niseko Town, and Kutchan Town will work on the utilization of EVs and the introduction and spread of charging facilities, with the aim of introducing sharing services and measures to combat traffic inconvenience such as the elderly, improving ease of living, revitalizing communities, etc., 

3. Matters concerning the enhancement and revitalization of tourist destinations
・ Rankoshi Town, Niseko Town, and Kutchan Town will also consider collaborative efforts as a Niseko tourism area, to reduce the environmental burden as a region and revitalize tourist destinations, and promote the creation of sustainable tourism areas.
・ Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Hokkaido Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Sapporo Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Nissan Prince Sapporo Sales Co., Ltd. will proactively introduce initiatives in each town and Niseko tourist area, and will also inform the environment of charging facilities within the Niseko tourist area, to strive to improve its attractiveness as a tourist destination with consideration.

4. Matters concerning disaster prevention and disaster countermeasures
・ Electric vehicle (EV) "Nissan Leaf" installed in the stores of Nissan sales companies in evacuation centers designated by the town when a power outage occurs due to a disaster in Rankoshi Town, Niseko Town, or Kutchan Town, will be lent free of charge, and by supplying power from the EV, we will establish a system that can continue to supply electricity at evacuation centers, etc. even in the event of a disaster, and protect the lives and physical safety of the townspeople.
・ The three towns, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Nissan's sales companies will promote the spread of EVs even in normal times, and by supplying electricity used at events in the three towns from EVs, they will be used as "running storage batteries" for electric vehicles, aiming to raise awareness of the environment and disaster prevention by actively appealing to the townspeople.
