Kazuo Arakawa photo exhibition "Winter in Hokkaido" ~ steam locomotive C62 record of glory -

Mr. Yoshio Arakawa is born in Tokyo in 1946 (Showa 21 years). Since I was a boy, I have spent my days familiarizing with railroad models and railway photographs. From 1968 (Showa 43) after graduating Tokyo Photographic College (now Tokyo Polytechnic University), I will engage in public relations and promotional photography of the National Railways as an exclusive photographer of the Public Relations Department of the Japanese National Railway (National Railways) Headquarters .

During this period, the revision of "Yon Sang-Too" [October 1968], which became a revision of the nationwide railway diamonds such as the development of express trains on new models, steam engines accompanying power modernization There was also a time when the situation surrounding the national railway began to change greatly, such as retirement of a car. Mr. Arakawa has recorded such historical events on film through cameras until the divisional privatization by the reform of the National Railways in 1987 (Showa 62). In parallel, in 1971 (Showa 46), Railways Graphic (RGG) limited company was established as a railroad photography library. As a representative railway photographer in Japan, we will follow the railway scenery nationwide, and it will reach the present.

In this exhibition, Mr. Arakawa went to the Otaru-Oshimanba area on the Hakodate Main Line in the winter of 1971 [Konami · Mountain Line] and the express train "Niseko" towing over Japan's largest steam locomotive "C62 type" (2 cars) It mainly deals 57 pieces. Mr. Arakawa passed from the departure of the Otaru maritime port agency district to which the C62 form belonged, through the bottleneck where steep and steep curves of Otamoi Pass, Inaho Pass, Kutchan Pass, Nominal Pass pass through successive paths to Shanghai Follow express "Niseko" running along the mountain line.

Mr. Arakawa's line of sight is a railway staff struggling in the extreme cold so as to make the train carrying heavy responsibility of Honshu contact on time, on the other hand passengers relaxing in a warm car, and C 62 duplex moving forward on a white snowyard is towing We catch express "Niseko" in a multilayered manner. These works will attract viewers as one documentary about the express "Niseko" rather than just a group of works that shot railcars. Also, there are lost railway and life scenery, it is also a valuable record that makes you feel the smell of the time of the day, does not it make you feel nostalgia?

In addition to this, this exhibition will also introduce a picture of a day visiting Niseko station taken by Mr. Arakawa, and a picture of a railway car that was active at each of Mt. Yotei.

All the works exhibited in this exhibition are silver salt prints. Mr. Arakawa continues to stick to the film still and continues shooting. I sincerely want to experience the beauty of silver particles again as it is now at the digital blessing.
For November 1st - 3rd, guests of "Arara Kazuo Photo Exhibition" which is currently holding a review, we will present a special bookmark of Teacher Arakawa for the first 15 applicants per day.
