Pneumococcal vaccination for the elderly

Eligible persons

(1) Those who are 65 years old as of the date of vaccination
(2) Those who are between 60 and 64 years old as of the date of vaccination and who have an underlying disease (cardiac, renal, or respiratory dysfunction or human immunodeficiency virus))

Subsidized Cost of the Vaccination

We will subsidize the cost of pneumococcal vaccinations for the following people who receive them at Niseko Clinic or a medical institution outside Niseko Town. Subsidies are limited to one time per person.
  • The self-pay amount is 3,000 yen.
  • Free of charge for public welfare recipients (Procedures must be completed in advance at the townhall.)
Those who have been vaccinated at a medical institution outside Niseko Town will be reimbursed by presenting a receipt, so please complete the procedures at the Health Promotion Section of the Health and Welfare Division.

  • Proof of bank account number for the deposit (e.g., bankbook)
  • Niseko Town Pneumococcal Vaccination Cost Subsidy Application Form (fill out at the town hall or download from the link below and bring it)

Flu vaccination

When getting a flu shot at Niseko Clinic or a regular medical institution outside the town a subsidy of up to 3,400 yen per vaccination is available for 
  • Those 65 years old and over
  • Those who are between the ages of 19 and 64 and who belong to household tax exemption / livelihood protection households (If you are getting the shot at Niseko clinic, proceedings are required at the town hall in advance)
  • Those who are from 6 months old to 18 years old (high school student equivalent age)


Those who have been vaccinated at a medical institution outside Niseko Town will be reimbursed by presenting a receipt, so please complete the procedures at the Health Promotion Section of the Health and Welfare Division.

COVID-19 vaccination

Eligible persons

  • Those eligible for routine vaccinations
(1) Those who are 65 years of age or older as of the date of vaccination
(2) Those aged 65 years or older but under 65 years as of the date of vaccination and who have an underlying disease (cardiac, renal, or respiratory dysfunction or human immunodeficiency virus))
  • Public Welfare Recipients (all ages receiving public assistance)
  • Health Care Workers

Subsidized Cost of the Vaccination

  • Those eligible for regular vaccinations: Self-pay amount: 3,000 yen (subsidy amount: 12,600 yen)
  • Public Welfare Recipients and Health Care Workers: No self-payment (subsidy amount: 15,600 yen)

If you received the vaccination at a medical institution outside of the town, you will be reimbursed upon presentation of a receipt. Please complete the procedure at the Health Promotion Section Health & Welfare Division. The subsidy amount is up to 12,600 yen per vaccination.

Routine Shingles Vaccination to Begin in April 2025

Shingles vaccination can help prevent shingles and its complications.
*From fiscal year 2025, the shingles vaccine will be covered as a routine immunization under the Immunization Act for individuals aged 65 and those eligible.

Eligible participants (eligible participants will be notified individually)

Those who live in the town and will be the following ages by the end of fiscal year 2025
  • Those who will turn 65 within the fiscal year 2025
  • Those aged 60-64 who have impaired immune function due to the human immunodeficiency virus and are unable to carry out daily activities
  • As a transitional measure for the five-year period from FY2025 to FY2029, those who turn 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, or 100 years old during that fiscal year.
  • People aged 100 or older (2025 fiscal year only)

Vaccine type

  1. Live vaccine (administered subcutaneously once)
  2. Recombinant vaccine (given intramuscularly in two doses at least two months apart)

Subsidized Cost of the Vaccination

  • Those eligible for routine vaccinations: (1) Live vaccines: Self-pay amount: 2,500 yen (subsidy amount: 6,360 yen)
(2) Recombinant vaccine: Self-payment: 10,000 yen (Subsidy: 12,060 yen)
  • Public Welfare Recipients and Health Care Workers: No self-payment (subsidy amount: 22,060 yen)

If you received the vaccination at a medical institution outside of the town, you will be reimbursed upon presentation of a receipt. Please complete the procedure at the Health Promotion Section Health & Welfare Division. The subsidy amount is up to 12,600 yen per vaccination.

Shingles vaccination (optional)

We will subsidize the vaccination costs for those who are not eligible for routine vaccinations but wish to receive them.

Eligible for cost subsidy

Those who live in Niseko Town and are 65 years of age or older on the day of vaccination

Subsidized Cost of the Vaccination

5,000 yen per dose (up to 2 doses for inactivated vaccines and 1 dose for live vaccines.)
However, those who are protected by the Public Assistance Act are free of charge.

Vaccination method

○ When getting the vaccine at Niseko Clinic
1. Make an appointment at Niseko Clinic.
2. Receive and fill in the application form for shingles vaccination and pre-examination form.
3.On the day of the vaccination, submit identification documents such as insurance card or driver's license and the completed application form/pre-examination form.
4. Please pay the total amount minus the town's subsidy of 5,000 yen (17,000 yen for inactivated vaccines and 3,800 yen for live vaccines) at the check-out.
(In the case of inactivated vaccines, the process will be the same for the second time.)
 
* Those who are protected by the Public Assistance Law can only be vaccinated at Niseko Clinic. In addition, before making a reservation at the Niseko clinic, procedures are required at the town hall.
○When getting the vaccine medical institution outside Niseko Town
1. Make an appointment at the desired medical institution. After that, follow the instructions of the medical institution and fill out the pre-examination form.
2. Please pay the full amount of the vaccination fee at the checkout. At that time, please receive a receipt (including a statement showing that you have received the shingles vaccination).
3. Fill out the Shingles Vaccination Subsidy Application Form at Niseko Town Town Hall Health & Welfare Division (or download it from the link below and bring it with you).
[What to bring] ・Receipt issued by a medical institution (including a statement showing that you have been vaccinated against shingles)
・bankbook or cash card that shows the bank account number (account name is the same as the applicant)
4.The subsidy fee will be reimbursed to the designated account at a later date.
  
* Please apply within one year after vaccination.
