Empty houses in residential areas can be a problem from a landscape and safety perspective, but forests pose similar challenges. Unfortunately, unsightly thickets and desolate land are scattered along the roads in the town, which many tourists see.
At present, the timber that can be cut and used in the town was planted from the postwar period to the high-growth period. At a time when food was also a struggle, our predecessors cut bamboo grass with a sickle, planted seedlings by hand, and then cleared undergrowth for a few more years without machines.
It's a forest that raised me while doing it. After that, the forestry industry was branded as a "desclining industry" during a period of economic rationality and profit priority. After going through a long period of stagnation, the “wood shock” caused the price of imported materials to soar and the absolute amount to be in short supply.
As a result, the sun is about to shine on forestry again.
It is a local asset that is made possible by the steady efforts to grow the forest and the economic burden during the shady times. Forestry, which is repeated in cycles of more than 60 years, needs to be continued for a sustainable future, rather than aiming for "short-term profits".

We hope that the townspeople will watch over our organization with a warm heart.

In April, when the new school year began, entrance ceremonies were held at each school in the town. This spring, 38 Niseko Elementary School students, 9 Kondo Elementary School students, 40 Niseko Junior High School students, and 23 Niseko High School students started new school lives.
The new students wore new uniforms and entered the ceremony with a nervous look on their faces at first.
At Niseko Elementary School, when my homeroom teacher called my name, I raised my hand and answered cheerfully. At Kondo Elementary School, new students enter while holding hands with upperclassmen. At Niseko Middle School and Niseko High School, the new student representatives spoke openly about their aspirations for the school life that will start from now on.

It's "help love"!
In November of last year, Mr. Daimon of "Mobile VET Office", a hospital specializing in sterilization and castration surgery for animals from Ebetsu City, came to Miyata Kaikan in Niseko Town. At that time, more than 30 volunteers participated in the spaying and neutering operation with the desire to "help the cats", and I was moved and moved by their love for cats and their wonderful power.
Here are the impressions from the volunteers who helped with the surgery.
◆Stray cats and domestic cats are important lives. I wanted to create an environment where all children can live with peace of mind. When you see a stray cat, where is this child's house? What about rice? I wish I could spread the things that I can care about.
Helping with shaving with sterilization castration surgery, which is usually left to the doctor and cannot be seen
It was a very valuable experience. Once again, it's been a good opportunity to think about the efforts to reduce unfortunate cats.
◆Cats are highly fertile and have an average of 3 estrous periods per year (mating is almost certain to result in pregnancy), giving birth to an average of 5 kittens each time.
The kittens will be able to breed after half a year after birth.
It was really nice to be able to spay and neuter stray cats cheaply so as not to increase the number of sad lives.
◆It was a very valuable experience for me to cut the hair of cats before surgery, clean their nails and clean their ears, and interact with cute cats.
Domestic cats, rescued cats, stray cats, all come from different backgrounds, but cats are loving beings that bring comfort and happiness to people. May all cats live happily ever after. I'm a stupid cat.
Even though I was really busy, I felt saved by the pure kindness and love of the volunteers.

3rd year Vice Chairman Mizuki Tanaka
On April 11th (Tuesday), the “face-to-face ceremony” and the “agricultural club orientation” were held.
The face-to-face ceremony was an event where the 1st and 2nd/3rd year students interacted for the first time, and the 2nd/3rd year students introduced the 1st year club activities and HR.
In the agriculture orientation, the agriculture club executives gave explanations and quizzes to the first-year students to learn about the agriculture club.
The first-year students seemed nervous when they met their seniors for the first time in a face-to-face ceremony, but they seemed to enjoy listening to the explanations, as if their tension had eased after seeing how they were doing.
The 2nd and 3rd graders were preparing to show their cool appearance to the new 1st graders.
It seemed that there were more smiles and excitement than usual high school life.
I would like to do my best to manage events so that my high school life will be more enjoyable in the future.

"Where Crawfish Cry"
Delia Owens: Written by Jun Tomohiro: Translated (Hayakawa Shobo)
In the swamps of North Carolina, the corpse of a young man was found, and the suspected culprit was Kaiya, the "swamp girl".
She was abandoned by her parents when she was six years old and has survived alone in a shack in the swamp.
The encounter between Kaia and a kind-hearted young man will change her destiny greatly.
The growth of a girl living in nature and a suspicious death are intertwined, and an unexpected ending awaits.
The story is made more interesting by the depictions of the wetlands and flora and fauna from the author's point of view, who is also a zoologist.
It is a work that was made into a movie in 2022.

Well, what about the green season?
It is from now on that the true value will be questioned.

The end of March at Moiwa Ski Resort is still a silvery world.
The warm sunlight reflects off the pure white snow mirror, making it even more dazzling.
Surrounding the ski resort reflected in the background are gentle mountains with magnificent snow.
A sharp sound can be heard from inside.
"○th goal! 41 XX seconds!"
I shouted to the radio
I reply, "Okay!"
While feeling the cold in your body, the hottest match is happening in front of you. A world with a difference of 0.1 seconds.
A cry of joy, a look of frustration.
From elementary school students to seniors in life.
The drama of the emotions of men and women of all ages is here at Moiwa Ski Resort.
A day when I was able to help you as a regional cooperation team.
After the game, the nice to meet you were helping each other with the feeling of mutual aid.
After work, have kitsune soba and relax your mind and body.
If I hadn't come to Niseko Town, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy a day like this.
The season is about to reach spring.
One year left for the cooperation team, what kind of exciting event will be next?
I'm looking forward to what's waiting for you.

Production and sales of snow globes
Launched "Niseko Globe Factory" last year,
Started a business to manufacture and sell gloves for skiing and snowboarding.
Since the end of last year, we have been working mainly on making prototypes, and we had many people, including people in the town, test them.
We are currently making improvements based on the test results, and plan to start general sales around July this year.
Now, to introduce some of the features of the product, we use “Ezo deer leather” as the main material.
Pursuing the uniqueness of Hokkaido and social issues (utilization of Yezo deer that are disposed of for population control)
I hope it will help you to solve the problem.
In addition, the main business is order-made sales of “made-to-order products” that meet various needs.
For details, please see various SNS of "Niseko Globe Factory"! HP is currently under construction.
Introduction of my assignment
18. Niseko Children's Center
3rd year Arisa Fukuda (from Iwamizawa)
Two years with the children and two years have passed since I was assigned to Niseko Children's Center.
In the first year, I was very confused because I didn't know what to do.
However, in the second year, the number of children asking me to play with them more often than in the beginning, or to say that they would like to play something like this, has increased.
I am inspired by the children every day, and I enjoy working while admiring that there are other ways to play.
This year will be my third year. I think it would be nice if I could enjoy interacting with children while trying not to forget my original feelings!
Activity Report
First held! snow education event
The members of the cooperation team planned for the first time "WE ARE NATURE! Let's play with snow and ice ♪" with the desire to learn about Niseko's indispensable snow and get familiar with it, and held it on February 25th. bottom.
The ice and snow artist "THE ICEMANS", who is mainly active in Niseko, was invited as a guest, and was held on the premises of "Mirakutsu Yukiya", a shop of the JOCV OB. About 50 people participated.
At this event, various programs were held while observing the characteristics of snow and ice under the guidance of "THE ICEMANS".
Volunteers were invited in advance to build the ice dome, and snow clumps were brought in to make chairs and objects were made around it.
In addition, everyone enjoyed playing in the snow, digging kamakura and tunnels using the snow walls, and walking over the tunnels to see how much they collapsed.
While it is said that the opportunities to play in the snow itself are decreasing, I am happy to create a place where people can purely enjoy playing in the snow.

The pension “ginkei” at the foot of the Niseko Annupuri ski resort opened for the first time this season as a couple.
Thanks to you, January and February were almost fully booked, and it was a busy time. 90% of the guests are foreigners, and the management company and owners are also foreigners.
Is there a town where you can feel "overseas" so much while staying in Japan?
It's been a special winter, experiencing Niseko's world-famous name firsthand.

This year, we welcomed 40 new children and started with 155 children, including continuing children.
Every spring, the center is full of lively voices, but little by little, I'm getting used to life at the center, building relationships of trust, and enjoying commute.
When my child comes to kindergarten with a smile on his face, the homeroom teacher and all the staff are filled with joy.
I would like to find a lot of fun things at the center and make it a place where I can laugh with my friends and teachers.
Let's play together a lot!

Second-year students from Niseko High School came to Ohisama and interacted with children, parents, and expectant and nursing mothers.
There were many questions from high school students, such as "What are the difficulties in raising children?", "Have you had any difficulties during childbirth?" He politely answered.
I think we also understood how parents think about their children, saying, "I grew up being loved by my parents."

●This month's theme
“A system for dealing with land with unknown owners has been established.”
This spring's revision of the law created a management system for land and buildings whose owners are unknown or poorly managed.
Specifically, with respect to real estate whose owner is unknown, a person with an interest can petition the court to appoint an administrator for such real estate.
For example, if you want to acquire an adjacent land to connect to a public road because your own land is inconvenient because it does not touch the public road, until now, you had to conclude a sales contract with the adjacent land owner. It was a principle.
In this case, a sales contract cannot be concluded without knowing who the adjacent land owner is.
It remains to be seen how much this system can be used, but in the future it will be possible for a manager appointed by the court to sell the property to the owner of the adjacent land with the permission of the court. Become.
In addition, under the newly established management system for real estate that is not managed properly, if the owner is not managing it properly and is causing trouble to the owner of the adjacent land, the court will also file a petition to appoint a manager. It is a system that allows you to
For example, you will be able to ask the manager to repair the crumbling wall, remove garbage, and exterminate pests. Spring is full of law revisions, so if you have the opportunity, we will introduce them one by one.

For the new year!
~The 3rd General Meeting of the CS Committee~
At the 3rd CS Committee meeting, we looked back on the activities of the past year and exchanged opinions for the new year.
《From the Opinion of the Plenary Session (Partial)》
・In order for local people to participate in school education, it is necessary to have a place to continuously discuss the direction.
・I would like to let the children experience cultural circles, etc. that the CS committee member is a member of.
・I would like to go to various places and promote hometown learning while cooperating with the community.

Activities of a town development company!
We held the last snow play event of the winter season!
On March 18th, we held the last snow play event of the winter season at Niseko Mirai! At the snow play event in January, we enjoyed sledding, making kamakura, and making snowmen in the fluffy snow. As spring approached, the snow gradually turned into hardened snow, so I took advantage of the wide snowfields of Niseko Mirai and tried to create "snowfield art" that is not rice field art.
On the day of the event, we created a large frame for painting in the snowfield, and used improved soil to draw a picture on the snow surface. The challenge this time is Nicky, the character of the town! I started with the outline of the whole body and gradually worked on the details inside.
The children who brought colored water on the day colored Nikki using red and yellow colored water.
I was able to finish Nicky to a higher degree of perfection, and when I finally climbed to the top of the snowy mountain on the premises and looked at it, the participants cheered.
We will be holding various fun events again this year, so we hope you will be able to participate.

Hello
I'm the mayor
Radio Niseko, a radio that is not just listened to, celebrated its 11th anniversary this March.
The late Kumiko Kihara, the representative of Mt. Misumi Broadcasting Station in Sapporo at the time, devoted herself to the opening of the radio station.
Some people wondered, "Isn't radio outdated in this Internet society?"
Radio Niseko, which was born with the understanding of the townspeople, now plays a major role as a "town development, administrative and disaster prevention information transmission center" that is indispensable for Niseko Town, and as an important "community fostering institution".
I will.
We would like to thank the employees of Radio Niseko and the volunteers who support us for their efforts.

Hello! I am a Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) at Niseko Town Office.

In addition to mainly providing tourist information and attracting tourists to foreigners, we provide linguistic support such as multilingualization of the town's public relations media and translation/interpretation support for residents.

Track! vol.28

Food and nutrition story vol.19
[Increase immunity]
A month has passed since the start of the new fiscal year, but are you feeling tired?
If you continue to be stressed by an unfamiliar environment and lack of sleep, your immune system will weaken, making you more susceptible to viruses such as colds.
Also, if you are infected, the symptoms may become severe, so let's review your daily lifestyle and increase your immunity.
【point】
1 Eat a balanced diet
When preparing or choosing meals, combine staple foods (rice, bread, noodles, etc.), main dishes (meat, fish, eggs, soybean products, etc.), and side dishes (vegetables, seaweed, mushrooms, etc.). prize. You can get the nutrients your body needs in a well-balanced manner.
2 Let's prepare the intestinal environment
Most of the immune cells in the body are concentrated in the intestine, so it is very important to improve the intestinal environment in order to improve immunity.
In particular, fermented foods such as yogurt, natto, and kimchi are rich in good bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactic acid bacteria, so it is important to increase their proportion. It is also important to take enough oligosaccharides and dietary fiber that increase the number of good bacteria.
3 Get enough sleep
For a good night's sleep, it is important not only the number of hours of sleep, but also the quality of sleep. Drinking before bed and drinks containing caffeine such as coffee and tea have a stimulating effect, so sensitive people should avoid them 5 to 6 hours before bedtime.

Editor's Note
When I was in high school, I had a vague admiration for a cameraman who came to my school for coverage.
It was my secret pleasure to read the monthly public relations magazine.
I want to work in public relations someday from the beginning when I entered the town hall! For me, who thought that, now I feel happy that I am making a public relations magazine like this.
The other day, I was interviewed for the entrance ceremony of Niseko High School.
It's been a long time since I've talked to the professors who took care of me, and I thought that being able to interact with the people I met at the interview site was one of the appeals of public relations work.
Every day I struggle with the difficulty of the camera and the difficulty of assembling the layout, but I will do my best to accumulate experience and create a worthwhile PR. (fruit)
