About judgment about Hokkaido Shinkansen parallel conventional line

Important Notice

Regarding matters related to the "continuous operation of parallel conventional lines" between Nagamanbe and Otaru, which we have continued to consider in conjunction with the development of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, even in 2019 (2019), when JR Hokkaido's revenue was large, the operating cost was 2.81 billion yen against the revenue of 460 million yen, which is a deficit of 2.35 billion yen, and we are in a situation where we continue to record a deficit of more than 2 billion yen every year. In addition, if we try to maintain parallel conventional lines in the future, it is estimated that an initial investment of more than 15.2 billion yen will be required, and the total deficit is expected to exceed 86.4 billion yen if it is operated for 30 years.
The Hakodate Main Line, which has contributed to the development of Hokkaido, has a history of pioneering Niseko Town and the history of life in the town. I think that there are many people who think that way.
However, considering the economic situation and the possibility of alternative transportation in a comprehensive manner today, we believe that it is impossible to impose a large burden on future generations any more.
Based on these circumstances, we have determined that it is unavoidable to abolish parallel conventional lines and switch to bus conversion, so I would like to report this.
