Niseko Town was awarded the "Best Tourism Village" by the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) at the 24th General Assembly held in Madrid from 18:00 on December 2nd.
The "Best Tourism Village" is innovative in the region in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to seek good practices from the region that leverage the strengths of tourism to protect the traditions and heritage of the local community. It is an effort to find out the area where the tourism business is carried out.
この制度の応募要件は1. 人口15,000人以下、2. 農業、林業、畜産業、漁業等を行っている、3. 地域コミュニティの価値観やライフスタイルを保持する取組を行っているというもので、ニセコ町は、各国で選抜された174を超える地域から、SDGsに関連する9つの分野で評価を受け、約44の地域の一つとして選定されました。
The certification is valid for 3 years. It is also possible to renew, and by receiving the award, public relations activities using the certified logo will be recognized, and it is expected that the support and information dissemination from UNWTO will raise the global recognition.
