<About the disaster prevention roadside station>
Roadside stations are a resting facility for road users, and "Niseko View Plaza" is located at a transportation hub where National Route 5 and Iwanai-Toya route, intersect. A certain number of road users are expected to stay at the facility when a disaster strikes, and when roads are closed due to disasters, etc., an increasing number of road users are expected to stay there while waiting for road information and road closures to be lifted.
In addition, the roadside station "Niseko View Plaza" is positioned as a "designated emergency evacuation site" in the "Niseko Town Regional Disaster Prevention Plan" created by the Niseko Town Disaster Prevention Council based on the provisions of Article 42 of the Disaster Countermeasures Basic Act, and in 2020 it was selected in Hokkaido's "Hokkaido Disaster Support and Receiving Assistance Manual" as a "roadside station that can serve as a base for recovery and reconstruction activities in addition to transporting and collecting relief supplies" due to its location characteristics.
Based on these considerations, the station was selected as a "Disaster Prevention Roadside Station" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2021, and is expected to serve as a wide-area disaster prevention base for the Shiribeshi region as needed.
