day service for you
Would you like to make what you can do and what you want to do?
As we age, our physical and cognitive functions decline, and we are unable to do more things. Currently in Niseko Town
The aging rate of people aged 65 and over is 26% (as of the end of July 2023). In Niseko Town 's population vision, 2025
The aging rate is expected to exceed 30% by the year.
Is it possible for us to live our own life in the familiar Niseko Town until the end of our lives?
This month, we will introduce Niseko Town Day Service Center.
What is a day service center?
This facility was established in 1997 to provide day care services.
We provide services such as transportation, bathing, lunch, daily movement training, various hobby activities and recreation for people aged 65 and over who are having difficulty in daily life.
The day service center is a place for social interaction for users, and is a facility that aims to reduce the physical and mental burden of nursing care for the family members.
We also provide individual and small group functional training (rehabilitation). For the maintenance and recovery of physical functions, daily menus such as walking exercises, facial exercises, fingertip rehabilitation, and brain training are provided.
We are actively engaged in health maintenance and promotion activities in New.

This service is available to those insured under long-term care insurance who have been certified as requiring assistance level 1 to level 5.
In addition, people who meet Niseko Town long-term care prevention and life support business usage standards can also use it. Capacity is 30 people.
When using the service, our staff will always visit your home in advance to ask you and your family's wishes about the time period, usage content, and how you spend your time.
You can visit the day service center at any time. Please feel free to contact us.
staff
The staff consists of 1 manager (concurrent), 1 lifestyle consultant, 2 nurses, 3 caregivers, and 3 drivers (as of the end of July 2023).
Fees
If you use long-term care insurance, the usage fee will cover 10% to 30% (depending on the burden ratio) of service fees, transportation fees, bathing fees, and food costs.

The bath at the day service center has two large bathtubs
Mitsugu Igarashi (86 years old) (Day service user)
I think that people who are energetic and have time should come on a day.
I was born in Karafuto (now Sakhalin) and grew up in Karafuto until I was in the 4th grade of elementary school. After that, I lived in Yokohama for a long time.
My son likes Hokkaido, he came to Niseko Town more than 30 years ago and has been doing business at the foot of Annupuri. I came to Niseko Town three years ago when my son called me. One day, while working outside and trying to enter the house, he collapsed and was taken to the hospital.
When I got home, my son told me to go to daycare. At first, I wasn't sure if someone like me could go there, so the town hall recommended that I use a day care service, but I didn't go. However, I was recommended to use it the following month, so I could not ignore it, so I came to try it in July last year. Since then I have been going every week.
The good thing about day is bathing and eating. The rice is very tasty, soft and easy to eat. It is a little troublesome that the amount is large, but I try my best to eat it all every time.
If you come to the day, there are people who are rehabilitating and people who are chatting, and they are spending their time. I don't think I can say "I want to go to a day service center" from myself, but I think that people who are healthy and have time should come once.
Masae Maekawa Masae Maekawa (84 years old) (day service user)
day is full of fun
Born in Kyowa Town, I came to Niseko Town more than 60 years ago when I got married. Seven years ago, I suffered from a stroke and spent more than half a year undergoing rehabilitation at a hospital in Sapporo. After that, Kutchan's "Rokkaen"
but I couldn't go for long because my legs hurt.
About four years ago, a staff member from the day service center in Niseko Town came to my house and invited me here. After that, I started going there, and I am practicing walking little by little.
Here, you can take a bath with your wheelchair, which is very helpful. Now I have to take a bath twice a week while sitting in a wheelchair.
Days are full of fun. In particular, the staff are very helpful. She doesn't even make a nasty face, she takes me to the bathroom, and she gently washes my hair and body in the bath. I think that once you come here, you will find that it is fun. Having lived in this town for more than 60 years, I have enjoyed
I had a lot of trouble. I hope that Niseko Town will continue to be a town where young people can come back and live happily ever after.
I asked the day service center staff!
Kaori Kambara (caregiver) Tomoe Nakajima (nurse)
During the day, I help with picking up and dropping off users, bathing, daytime activities, and field work outside. There is a daily schedule according to the wishes and conditions of the user, and the staff in charge of outside work, inside work, etc. will talk to you and propose activities so that you can do the activity that suits you. After carefully watching each person and managing their physical condition,
We are trying to make sure that you can spend your time safely and comfortably.
There are many people who say "I can't do it" when I invite them to participate in activities, but there are many people who can do it if they try it together. We want to be a facility and run it.
Currently, most of the activities are based on staff suggestions, but I hope that users will propose what they want to do, and that they will be able to help each other.
The day service center is used so that you can continue your current life. Why don't you use the day more casually, like coming to a cafe?
At first, you may feel that the threshold is high, but if you take a step and come, you may find fun.
The concept of the day is "a day service that fits any person and can be improved together with anyone".
Everyone gets old, so I want Niseko Town to be a comfortable place to live when I get older. For that reason, I think it is important to have an environment where people are close to each other and listen to what they have to say.
I think it would be good if we could become a town where everyone watches over the elderly and helps each other in the same way that children are watched over in the community.

Long lines were formed immediately after the sales started, and it was a great success.
The stage was filled with excitement as the 3rd year students gave a play presentation!

2023 War Memorial Ceremony
On July 20th, Niseko Town War Dead Memorial Ceremony was held. Ten members of the Bereaved Families Association and related parties attended the ceremony, pledging to record the ravages of war and handing down the memories of the war, and reaffirming their desire for international peace.
At the ceremony, we comforted the spirits of about 170 war dead in Niseko Town who lost their lives in the war from the Manchurian Incident to the Pacific War.
At the townspeople center parking lot, we also opened a stall for the first time in 4 years.

Garbage Disposer Chiero Compost
Ladies and gentlemen, how do you dispose of garbage in each household? I think there are various things such as garbage bags designated by the town, commercially available compost, electric garbage processors, and burying them in the garden.
I was particularly troubled by the odor of garbage and flies in the summer, and tried all the methods listed on the right, but none of them lasted long, and I ended up with the current Chiero Compost.
Chiero Compost was originally invented by Mr. Matsumoto, who lives in Kanagawa Prefecture, and as the SDGs spread, it is a compost that has been promoted by municipalities and local governments nationwide to reduce garbage.
When you hear the word "compost", some people might think of compost, but I built a garbage disposal machine two years ago and still use it today.
The procedure is not a brand new process of “digging a hole and burying garbage”, but it is a very simple process, but it is a compost that has been devised to activate microorganisms more rationally and efficiently.
Since food waste is decomposed by the power of microorganisms, it is possible to treat food waste at home semi-permanently without increasing the amount. Even if you don't have a large garden, you can start easily.
I put everything from hard to rotten things such as leftover food, waste cooking oil, and bones and skins. I even look forward to putting food waste in it as if I were feeding it (laughs).
I believe that if even a small amount of interest in the environment changes behavior and more people make it a habit, it will be the first step toward long-term sustainable community development.

3 years after the school festival, Chairman Nene Saito
The Niseko High School Festival was held on Saturday, July 15th.
This year, for the first time in three years, we were able to open the event to the public and set up refreshment stands. I felt uneasy at times because it was a school festival in a format that all grades had never experienced before, but thanks to the cooperation of all grades, we were able to successfully hold the event.
In the morning session of the school festival, we had a class performance and refreshment stalls. While there are many dance presentations every year, this year the 1st year students presented a band presentation, and the 2nd and 3rd year students presented an interesting play.
In the afternoon, volunteers made presentations and the school festival executive committee organized the "Niseko High School All-Star Thanksgiving Festival".
We were worried about whether we could go ahead because of the rain, but we were able to set off the fireworks without incident, making it a memorable school festival for all the students.
Finally, thank you to everyone who came to visit us. Please come to our school festival next year.

Graduation special feature
We are posting greetings from two members whose terms will end at the end of 2023.
Satoshi Kamata (from Akita Prefecture) Assignment: Townspeople Learning Division
Spreading “NISEKO GLOVE”
In August 2010, we founded the “Niseko Glove Factory” and started the production and sales business of “ski and snowboard gloves” using Yezo deer leather.
After one year of prototyping, sales began in August 2011 under the brand name “NISEKO GLOVE”.
After graduation, we will continue to work in Niseko Town, focusing on this project.
During my three-year tenure as a JOCV, I was involved in the promotion of sports in the region as a member of the sports section of the townspeople's study section.
In particular, it was an irreplaceable experience to experience the nature and activities of Niseko Town, such as skiing and mountain climbing, with the children and students in the town.
From now on, we will be working as a private business operator, but we would like to continue to develop “NISEKO GLOVE” as a local brand through our relationships with local residents.
Thank you for your continued support!
Ryosuke Kato (from Shiraoi Town) Assigned to: Agricultural Policy Division
Do what you can
My son, who was 4 years old when he arrived in the midst of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, entered Kondo Elementary School this year.
My wife, who arrived with me as a cooperative worker, now works as a childcare worker at Yoji Centre. Niseko Town I would like to thank the many people who have helped me to get to where I am today.
I am preparing for farm maintenance and sales channel development for the full-scale operation of the farm from next year. We have also started a business to create an EC platform that allows us to start the distribution of goods and services ourselves and share the economy.
Together with 10,000 business partners across Japan in a wide variety of industries and business categories, we will solve the problems of local businesses and create a distribution economy that is good for all five directions, which is similar to Niseko's "mutual aid". business.
As a town resident, we will do our best to contribute to the revitalization of Niseko's community through the two pillars of our farm business and EC business. I look forward to working with you and your family in the future.
steps to independence
3rd year: Naoto Arai (from Saitama Prefecture) Assigned to: Forestry Support, Agricultural Policy Division Division
Get involved with Niseko's rich forests
I have been involved in the forests of Niseko Town for the third year. We are also continuing to maintain the forests of the town-owned land, making it a place that everyone in the town wants to take a walk. Currently, in addition to forest maintenance, we also produce firewood.
The small-scale forestry that we are doing goes well with firewood production and is needed by the local people, so I would like to continue it.
In the future, while continuing to create forests and produce firewood, I would like to be involved in the production of materials for skateboards and snowboards as a new way to use materials unique to Niseko, where the side-riding culture is rooted.
I would like to continue to play a role in creating rich forests while enjoying the richness of nature. We are always looking for mountains where we can maintain forests, so please contact us if you have any idea.

Fermentation festival support
The 2nd Fermentation Festival sponsored by the Niseko Fermentation Tourism Promotion Council was held on July 1st at Takahashi Farm.
Although it was a cloudy day with Mt. Yotei hidden in the clouds, fermenters gathered one after another in the square, selling Niseko's representative cheese, drinking yogurt, beer, sake, gin, tomato juice, and limited-edition amazake sake.

team building
On July 19th (Wednesday), the JOCV team building was held.
Rafting experience in the morning, Shinichi Shimoda, CEO of Hokkaido Lion Adventure, gave a lecture in the afternoon.
Mr. Shimoda's lecture was particularly impressive as it made me think about how to make my life as a JOCV more meaningful.
I would like to make use of it in my future life. (Ago Miyamae)
A workshop to think about the future of Niseko Town-Toward the formulation of the 6th Niseko Town Comprehensive Plan
On July 13th, I participated in a workshop to think about the future of Niseko Town. 6 people from the cooperation team participated. In 2035, they were divided into six groups based on the theme of what kind of town Niseko Town should be.
At the end, each group presented and shared what they had discussed.
I would like Niseko Town 12 years later to be a future that reflects what we discussed this time. (Takako Itami)
I found a sustainable spot in Niseko!
This time, we will introduce "ICOR NISEKO", a beauty brand that proposes cosmetics that combine natural materials from Hokkaido, and has a cafe.
At this store, we have simplified the product packaging, removed plastic such as paper butterfly cups, husky cups made from coffee husks that would have been thrown away, and straw straws. Efforts to reduce waste that is reused as field nutrition and promote local production for local consumption
I'm in. It's difficult not to put out raw garbage even though it's a restaurant.
Such sustainable efforts are not only for Niseko, but also for the future of the earth. (Misa Kudo)

(Misa Kudo)

Let's get through the summer well!
Yoji Centre
The hot days continue, but the children are doing well, such as playing in the water, playing in the sand, and preparing for the sports day.
After playing a lot, every child is hungry and looking forward to "What is today's school lunch?"
The school lunches at the center are cooked in the facility, so you can eat freshly prepared meals, which are very delicious.
The children at the center play well, eat well, sleep well, and seem to be able to get through the summer in good health.
First tooth brushing lesson!
Sun
We invited Ms. Yuko Hayashi, a dental hygienist, as a lecturer to talk about "key points to prevent tooth decay" and "about milk teeth."
The cause of tooth decay is not only sugar content, but also the "environment (tooth)", and the "cavity bacteria" that live on the surface of the tooth "take in food (sugar) and have a certain amount of time". It looks like it's going to be a caterpillar tooth.
At the end, we were taught how to polish the teeth, and the mothers who participated commented, "I'm glad I learned how to brush my teeth and what causes cavities."

Dr. Kawai's Health Memo vol28
Hello. This time most people take it when they get older
I'm talking about illness. Do you have any of the following symptoms?
Have you recently experienced symptoms such as decreased vision, blurred vision, glare in the light, dull color vision, double or triple overlapping vision, etc.?
Maybe it's a cataract. Cataract progresses once it develops, but in the early stages there may be no subjective symptoms.
What is cataract?
Cataract is a disease in which the lens called the lens, which is responsible for adjusting vision, becomes cloudy due to various causes and causes vision impairment.
What is the cause? The most common cause is aging, and it develops when the protein in the lens component denatures and becomes cloudy. Other causes include diabetes, trauma, and long-term steroid use. Ultraviolet rays and blue light are said to generate active oxygen, which is the cause of aging, and exacerbate cataracts. The crystalline lens has the role of blocking ultraviolet rays, but ultraviolet rays exist everywhere in our daily lives, and we cannot block them all. In addition, in modern society where computers and smartphones are widespread, the amount of time exposed to blue light is also increasing, so be careful not to use them for long periods of time. In general, it is said that it is time to consider surgery when your eyesight is affected and you feel inconvenience in your daily life.
What about prevention?
Cataract is an eye disease that causes the lens to become cloudy. In the early stages of the disease, eye drops are used to slow the progression of the disease, but their effectiveness varies from person to person.
What is the cure?
Cataract surgery is a surgical procedure that removes the cloudy lens and inserts an artificial lens. This surgery can improve your vision. The operation is performed under local anesthesia with eye drops, and an incision of about 2 to 3 mm is made in the eyeball, but there is almost no pain. Currently, there are many types of lenses, including single-focal lenses that concentrate the visible range in one place and multi-focal lenses that allow you to see from far to near. Each has advantages and disadvantages, so I often consult with an ophthalmologist.
Let's consult and choose the best lens. After that, the outlook for life is sure to be bright.

About steam ejection in Niseko Rankoshi regional geothermal power resource survey project
On June 29th (Thursday), a large amount of steam spewed out when a business operator was drilling to a depth of about 200m in the Yusato area of Rankoshi Town for a survey on geothermal power generation. This has no direct impact on Niseko Town, and rivers and drinking water in the town are now safe to use. At the excavation site, we are working to bring the situation under control as soon as possible. For more information, please contact the business operator.

Thank you for always using the park carefully.
We maintain and manage the park so that everyone can have a good time, but there are times when small garbage-like things (plastic fragments, etc.) are found in the sandbox of the rural park (children's square).
Please do not put garbage in the sandbox as it will be a nuisance to other users.

Attorney Sato will solve your worries!
●This month's theme
"Come! Legal girl!"
The other day, I participated in an event called "Come on! Legal girls!"
This event is held regularly by local bar associations as an initiative to increase the number of female legal professionals (legal girls) such as judges, public prosecutors, and lawyers.
At this event, panel discussions were held on the work of female judges, prosecutors, and lawyers, as well as how they spend their private lives.
Currently, the percentage of female legal professionals is around 30% among judges and public prosecutors, and less among lawyers, at only 15% in Sapporo. I don't really understand why the ratio of female lawyers is low, but compared to self-employed lawyers, civil servants such as judges and public prosecutors have a better leave system before and after childbirth and during childcare. It may be one of the reasons.
In the first place, I feel that the percentage of women among students in law faculties and law schools is low. In France, about 70% of law faculties are women, and it is said that law is a women's study. I would like to expect the effect of this legal women's event as one of the efforts to increase the percentage of women in law faculties like France.

pension news
The National Pension has various premium exemption/deferral systems, such as those based on income, those applicable to students, and those due to unemployment. However, during the period when these approvals are received, the pension amount received in the future will be less than when the premiums are paid in full.
Therefore, for these periods, you can pay the insurance premium later (additional payment) if it is within 10 years.
Depending on the elapsed period, additional amounts may be added to the insurance premium, so early payment is recommended.
If you would like to make additional payments, you will need to submit an application form. Exempted insurance premiums can be paid in addition

Everyone SDGs
This corner explains about SDGs.
This month marks the 15th Goal: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. plan.
Rich forests are sources of clean air and water that support our lives. However, as our lives become more prosperous, much of nature is being destroyed, and many creatures living there are in danger of extinction. It is said that 40,000 species of organisms go extinct every year in the world, and the rate of extinction is 40 times faster than it was about 50 years ago when it was first observed. About 14% of Japan's land area of the world's forests has disappeared from the earth in one year.
Do you know the story of Yellowstone National Park in the United States? All wolves were exterminated after it was determined that the native wolves might eat up the surrounding livestock and animals in the park. As a result, deer and other herbivorous animals that escaped predation increased, and creatures that had originally lived in forests and grasslands as their habitats lost their habitats.
Afterwards, 14 wolves were released into the park to restore the ecosystem, the overpopulated deer population was restored, the trees grew thicker, and the wild birds returned. Coyotes, which had increased in place of wolves, also decreased, and small mammals such as rabbits returned to normal. Subsequently, the population of beavers that preyed on them also returned, and the populations of otters, badgers, amphibians, river fish, etc. living near the river also revived.
In this way, it was found that wolves, which humans exterminated to protect their lives, are actually important in maintaining the ecosystem of the surrounding environment.
Just like dinosaurs, animals once extinct never return. It is also the responsibility of humans to protect creatures that have nowhere to go due to the destruction of nature.

September 9th is First Aid Day
September 9th is “First Aid Day” every year. The week that includes First Aid Day is "Emergency Care Week". Regarding the use of ambulances and first aid, we are particularly strengthening our appeals to the townspeople.
We never know when a life-threatening illness or injury may strike. On average, it takes about nine minutes for an ambulance to arrive after being called.
At Niseko Fire Department, we are conducting first aid training from 5 people. The actions of people on the spot may save the patient's life. Also, ambulances are limited. Thank you for your cooperation in the proper use of ambulances.

prepare for typhoon
August to September is the time when the number of typhoons occurring, approaching, and making landfall is the highest in a year. They may approach or land on Hokkaido while maintaining their strength, and bring about disasters mainly due to storms, heavy rains, storm surges, and high waves.
When a typhoon is approaching and there is a risk of disaster, the Japan Meteorological Observatory will issue warnings and weather information, calling for vigilance. On the Japan Meteorological Agency website, you can check the disaster prevention information by setting the city, town or village where you live.

Resident participation
Twenty-eight years ago, in order to solve the town's long-standing concerns about tourism, such as the improvement of tourist information and the lack of public toilets, the study started from the "blank slate" with the free participation of the townspeople. The result was the roadside station “Niseko View Plaza”.
At first, there was no precedent for ``debating from a blank slate'', so there was a series of opposing opinions within the town hall, such as ``Resident participation from a blank slate is an abdication of the government's responsibility.'' In any case, the first townspeople review meeting was held at the townspeople center where chairs were arranged in a circle at night, and enthusiastic discussions were held for about two hours. It was decided to continue the discussion.
"Practice of new residents' autonomy" in which townspeople participate from the beginning in the policy formation process began in Niseko Town.

Note

Food and Nutrition Story vol.21
[Summer vacation children's cooking class]
We held a summer vacation children's cooking class for elementary school students under the theme of "Let's learn about food loss."
This year was the second time the event was held, but it was a great success with more applications than last year.
There are three items on the menu: "vegetable hamburger steak", "non-fried French fries" and "banana smoothie". In the middle of cooking, we talked briefly about "What is food loss?" and "How to cut vegetables without waste."
As a countermeasure against food waste, I introduced that carrots should not be peeled, shiitake mushrooms should be used up to the stems, and broccoli stems should also be added to the hamburger steak. The participating children made various comments, such as, "I didn't know you could eat the stalks of shiitake mushrooms," and "I had never seen broccoli stems before, so I was surprised at the overall picture."
In addition, we talked about first working on food loss countermeasures that we can do, such as "do not leave food" and "do not overshop".
We will introduce part of the menu, so please try making it at home.

Editor's Note
This summer has been extremely hot, with temperatures hovering around 30 degrees every day. I couldn't resist the heat this summer, so I finally got a fan, but just after that, I caught a summer cold for the first time in my life.
It was right before the biggest event in Niseko, the “Tanabata no Yube Fireworks Festival”.
On the day of the fireworks display, I managed to recover my physical condition, but it was quite a difficult schedule with my physical strength after recovering from the illness.
However, looking through the lens at the parents and children working on making strips of paper and making lanterns, and looking at the energetic children, I was able to get a lot of energy and feel the summer.
Nonetheless, I keenly felt that I had to thoroughly manage my physical condition as a public relations representative.
I will do my best with health first so as not to miss a precious moment of the event. (fruit)
