[URGENT SAFETY NOTICE] Serious Accidents Are Increasing in the Niseko Area

Important Notice

Recently, there has been an increase in accidents in the Niseko area caused by skiers ignoring the Niseko Rules and going off course. The Niseko Rules are established to respect the freedom of skiers to the maximum extent possible.
These are unique rules that have been established over many years by local volunteers and the ski resort.
However, ignoring the rules and acting recklessly could not only cost you your life, but could also destroy this wonderful skating culture itself.

■ An absolute promise to protect freedom
・Do not exit from any other route than the gate.
・Do not go under the rope.
・Never enter restricted areas.

■ There is no safety in the winter mountains
- Consider the risks yourself
- By equipping yourself with equipment (beacons, probes, shovels, etc.), you may be able to save not only your own life but also the lives of your teammates in the event of an emergency.

Due to the series of accidents, rescue teams are being forced to operate under extremely dangerous conditions. If more accidents occur, we may be forced to restrict the "free skiing environment" that Niseko has protected.

To all skiers and snowboarders who love the mountains of Niseko and enjoy the freedom they offer.
Please respect the Niseko Rules and make wise decisions.

Recently, there has been an increase in mountain rescue incidents caused by skiers and snowboarders entering restricted or prohibited areas through unauthorized routes, in violation of the Niseko Rules.

The Niseko Rules are a locally established safety framework, developed by the local community and ski resorts to protect the maximum freedom of skiers and snowboarders. Disregarding these rules puts lives at serious risk and undermines the system that allows this freedom to exist.

Entering closed terrain is not a personal choice without consequences. It creates a high risk of severe injury or death and places rescue personnel in dangerous situations.

■Follow the Niseko Rules to protect freedom
・Enter backcountry areas only through designated gates
・Do not pass under ropes and barriers
・Do not enter closed or prohibited areas

■Winter mountains are inherently dangerous
・Understand and assess risks for yourself
・Carry appropriate safety equipment (beacon, probe, shovel).
This equipment does not make winter mountain travel safe, but it increases the chance of
saving your own life or the lives of others in an emergency

The continued increase in accidents is forcing rescue teams to operate under extremely hazardous conditions. If these incidents continue, the free skiing environment that Niseko has long maintained may be subject to further restrictions.

We ask all skiers and snowboarders who value freedom and respect the Niseko mountains to follow the Niseko Rules and make responsible decisions.

Your actions affect not only yourself, but everyone who shares this environment.
