Introduction

Hello, Guten Tag!

My name is Fabian. I am from Germany. I was born in the west of Germany and grew up in a town called Enniger.

When I was in high school, I never imagined that I would live in Japan someday. At that time, I was worried about what kind of job I wanted to do in the future. However, I wanted to experience a culture completely different from Europe, so I became interested in Japan.
After graduating from high school, I entered the University of Bochum and took Japanese classes while studying East Asian economics and politics. In 2022, I came to Japan for the first time as an international student and studied at Fukushima University for one year. Throughout that year, I was deeply moved by Japans’ nature and culture. Every day was like an adventure. So I made the decision to try to live and work in Japan.
As someone who is always freezing, I know there will be a lot of challenges ahead here in Niseko, but I am also sure I will enjoy life here in this town full of nature called Niseko.

Where I’m From

I grew up in a small town called "Enniger". It has a population of 3,000 people, which is about as small as Niseko. It may be an ordinary town for Germany, but it is a very charming place with a mix of new houses and many old historical buildings. There is a large forest nearby with a big castle surrounded by a beautiful lake, which makes it a perfect spot for a walk.

After my high school graduation, I moved to Bochum, a big city which is located in the west of Germany. The area around Bochum is called the “Ruhr-Rhein-Area”. With big cities like Dortmund, Duesseldorf and Cologne, it is the second biggest metropolitan area in Europe. What do you think western Germany is famous for?

One famous food in Germany is sausages right? It is not the famous “Weisswurst" (white Sausage) you may be thinking of, but the Curry Sausage! While the Weisswurst is indeed very famous in the South, you barely can find it in other parts of Germany. Nevertheless, what you can find everywhere is the Curry Sausage,  which is mostly served with fries. However it is not very common in restaurants, instead there is no festival, zoo or football game without a food stall which sells one. Eating a delicious curry sausage after a long day of swimming at a public pool is a childhood memory perhaps every German still holds in his chest. Especially in western Germany, the curry sausage is exceptionally delicious, and I recommend everybody to try it out if you ever come to Germany.
