 大家好! (Hi everyone!)
My name is Guanan Mei, and I’m from China. Though this is my first time living in Hokkaido, I have been living in Japan for about 4 years.
My mother was deeply interested in Japanese dramas and fashion so I grew up surrounded by Japanese culture. Thus when I got to university I decided to major in Japanese. In my 3rd year I did a one year exchange to Tottori University. I studied Japanese culture and society as well as economic and took a particular interest in regional economics. Thus, when I finished my degree I applied for the Tottori University Graduate School and studied regional economics. After that I moved to Tokyo and worked there for a year.

During my time as a student I was involved with local international exchange activates and found it really suited my interests. With that in mind I decided to apply for the JET Programme as a CIR.

One of my hobbies is drawing. I really look forward to being able to draw some of the beautiful, eye catching scenery of Niseko. Also I really love cooking and making sweets, and I would love to be able to make something with all of you. And of course, as I am in Niseko I would like to give skiing and snowboarding a try.
I feel honoured to be able to make a living here and to help with the internationalisation efforts of Niseko. It may be challenging at times but I will try my best. To all those interested in China, learning Chinese, or who are from China and living here, please do feel free to get in touch with me. I would love to hear from you.

Where I’m From

Hebei is a northern province of China. Within it is the national capital Beijing and the famous port city Tianjin. The seasons in my region are quite distinct with summer being very warm and winters being very cold. In winter, temperatures can often dip below -10, but there is not as much snow as there is in Niseko. Hebei Province is filled with history and is well known for its cuisine. Some examples include donkey meat burgers and beef round cakes. If you ever get a chance you should come and visit.
